"I finally took my head out of the sand and freed up my nostrils and filled them with good, clean air, and that good clean air was called Doing Something for Someone Else." -Norma Jean McKeldin, diagnosed age 39

View Article  Last chance to crew for the Avon Walk!
I got an email this afternoon from the Avon Walk saying that if you want to be a crew member for the walk in October up in New York City, your chance to become one is running short. They're going to be closing applications to crew soon. So, if you or someone you know would like to join the crew team, you can do so by going online to www.avonwalk.org or by calling the New York Avon Walk Office at 212-586-8720. You can also email crew.newyork@avonwalk.org for more information.

With my foot the way it is, I'm wondering if I should have signed up to crew rather then walk.

I haven't been doing much fundraising at all for the Avon Walk this coming October. And I know why....I'm not sure I'm going to be able to walk in it for a number of reasons. First and formost, my left foot. When I ws 16 years old I had surgery done on both feet for bunions. They broke the bone and reset each by placing a pin in it to keep it in place. My right foot had to be redone about 8 years later but times had changed and they did laser surgery then by using a laser to chip away at the bone. My left foot was fine.

Until recently. Last year this time, I looked down at my left foot and I saw this little lump right about where the pin is. I didn't think anything of it, walked in the Breast Cancer 3 Day last October and seemed fine. Well, if you look at that little lump today it's gotten bigger and it now hurts and I'm starting to wonder if that pin is now trying to make it's way out of my foot. I don't even know if that's possible or not, but if it is and that is what's happening, I'm going to need surgery on that foot.

Now to reason two of why I might not be able to walk in the Avon Walk: my MIL is coming from Ireland the 1st week of October and is staying for 3 weeks. We have not seen her in over two years. Enough said about that.

And reason #3, airfare is insane!!!!!

I'm not saying right now that I'm definitely not walking in it. I'm going to first go to an orthopedic foot doctor and see what he/she has to say and then go from there.
