"I finally took my head out of the sand and freed up my nostrils and filled them with good, clean air, and that good clean air was called Doing Something for Someone Else." -Norma Jean McKeldin, diagnosed age 39

What you've all been waiting for!

Drumroll please!!!!!

First, I have to say, I was THE HIT of the salon this morning. I walked in and in front of about 8 women told them what I was doing (as far as chopping it all off and donating it) so from then on I had everyone in the salon's attention. They all watched as she chopped off my ponytail. Then as I walked through the salon for them to wet it so she could style it they all oohed and aahed. They even watched as she styled it and when I was done, they all loved it and congratulated me on a job well done.

And now, without further adieu, the pictures! Now remember, I'd never been to this salon before! And those highlights you see in my hair as she's cutting it, are my REAL natural highlights! I haven't died my hair in over 4 years, maybe more.  I can't wait to rewash it and style it myself!

I decided to put it in a slideshow for easier viewing and to take up less space on here. For those of you that I sent a picture to via cell phone - disregard that picture, it came out horrible! It looks so much better in person!

View Article  Donating my hair for a good cause...
The beginning of this month, I took my daughter to get her haircut and we then donated it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths so they could make hair pieces for women who are suffering from cancer. Back in December Caelie decided she wanted to do this so we've been growing her hair for a while now.

Today is my turn. I had decided with her, back in December to do the same thing. Right now, the length of my hair is down past the middle of my back. It's long! I've picked out a style that I want so now let's just hope I like it when it's done and don't come home wearing a baseball cap. I have to be out in public tonight you know!

It's just hair though and it will grow back and I am doing an awesome thing by giving what I have, to those that don't.

Yesterday, Caelie came home with a poem that had been laminated, has her picture and her handprint on it and at the bottom a note from her teacher. I read the poem and the note and just started crying.

Whose Child Is This?
Author Unknown

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school"

"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever."

Parents-
Thank you for letting me work with your child this year. You have a wonderful daughter.

View Article  Uncomfortable in your own skin?
Have you ever had those days where no matter what you put on to wear, even though it might like good, it still doesn't feel right just because you're uncomfortable in your own skin? I'm having one of those days right now. I feel so bloated and just blah and no matter what shirt I'm putting on, it doesn't feel like it fits right. They've all looked fine so far, but I just can't get comfortable. It doesn't help that I'm PMS'ing, I'm sure. Maybe if I drink like 2 gallons of water today, by tomorrow I'll feel less bloated?!

Why not go and send a postcard then to PostSecret? I just found this blog off of another persons blog and I sat there and read all of them. It is such a great idea for a website/blog. I know I have a few I could send in and I just might. Every week he posts new secrets that he's gotten in the mail so they change on a weekly basis (I believe every Sunday). You can be certain this is one blog that I subscribe to.
View Article  Tootsie Roll fever...
Last week I found a bag of candy in our kitchen pantry that you'd use to put in a pinata. And it was still good to eat. Not sure where I got it from or how long it had been sitting in there, but it tasted fine. So fine in fact I've been pigging out on it lately - especially the Tootsie Rolls! Although, up until today I only allowed myself to have just one. Today though, I don't know what happened. Maybe I'm PMS'ing or maybe my old chocolate craving just took over but I think I ate like 5 of them in a row and within like 15 minutes. I even took one little chocolate Tootsie Roll and ate it with an orange Tootsie Roll and that tasted heavenly. Right now though, I'm feeling seriously ill! I think I might just go and throw the bag out.....right now! BLECH!
View Article  Reading...
I'm an avid reader of James Patterson! I have about 3 books of his waiting to be read. One of them is his 7th Heaven book. I've heard it's an awesome read. But right now I'm in the middle of reading 3 books and need to get done with them first. I actually haven't picked up a book in weeks. Not sure why. I had gotten into the habit of reading for about an hour before going to bed but then Sean came home from Louisiana and my whole bedtime routine has changed again. I was just looking at the stack of books on my "to read" list (the ones I already have) and I think I've got about 15. Then there's the ones I've been told that I have to get. I need to make an actual list up so I don't forget the ones that I don't have yet.
View Article  Earth Hour 2008

I just read about Earth Hour over on a blog I frequently read and the kids and I are going to participate in this tonight. When I told the kids about it at first they got kind of scared saying "But it will be dark" and "How will we watch TV?". But then they thought about it for about a millisecond and decided it would be fun with candles lit. So, from 8pm - 9pm all electronics in this house will be turned off and unplugged and all lights off. I encourage all of you to do the same.

is for the birds! Seriously! With it being 4 weeks since Sean left, I am exhausted and I now have a new found respect for any woman that does this alone. I know a few single moms, all with 2-3 kids or more and I don't know how you do it day in and day out. I am counting down the days until Sean gets back and right now we're at 9 more days. I'm beat and the past few days, by the time it's 2pm I'm ready for bed!
