A friend of mine was over this past Saturday and was telling me how she heard Relay for Life is going to be doing a relay in our town at one of the local highschools this spring. This is an all night, over night event. What you do is someone from your team has to be walking at all times. So, you're up all night basically. And you're also raising money for cancer. I'm trying to find out how old you have to be to participate because it would be so cool if you two families (and others) could start a team and all do it. I know my kids would love doing something like this. I'm wondering also if you bring tents, if they supply them or if you just bring sleeping bags. But then what happens if it rains? I need to get more info on it.

In the mail today I received a flyer about the EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Women that is being held up in New York City on May 3rd. I didn't realize Revlon did anything like this until today. On May 10th it will be in Los Angeles. This year will make it their 11th annual event. I was trying to find information on how far you have to actually run or walk and how much you have to raise for it but I'm having trouble doing that. I see nothing at their site to indicate any of that information, nor any links where I can go. OK, wait a minute, it seems they run or walk from Times Square to Central Park. I'm still not sure though how much you have to raise. It does say if you can't participate you can always donate. If we still lived in New Jersey that would be one walk I'd definitely do!

I was at a meeting for Caelie's Brownie Troop last Sunday night (about how it's time to sell those cookies) and her leader started talking to me about the Race for the Cure and the 3-Day and then said someone had told her they were walking in a breast cancer walk (or it could have been a race) that is going to be within the next few months. She couldn't remember the name of it though. Anyone out there have a clue as to what it might be? And she said it was here in Tampa. I'm wondering if it's for another cause and not breast cancer and she just got it mixed up.

For those of you that would rather bicycle then walk, The YSC does an annual 4 day, 220 mile bicycle ride every October called the York Tour de Pink. They start out in Times Square, NY City and end in Hershey, PA. It's sponsored by York Peppermint Patties and The Hershey Company. Riders raise at least $2,500 each and the money goes to the YSC.
"The YSC (Young Survival Coalition) is the only international, non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women and breast cancer. Through action, advocacy and awareness, the YSC seeks to educate the medical, research, breast cancer and legislative communities and to persuade them to address breast cancer in women 40 and under. The YSC also serves as a point of contact for young women living with breast cancer." Wednesday, November 29

yesterday on the NY City Avon Walk next October. It came with a flyer and even a DVD to watch. Think I'll watch it today after I drop Kieran off the school.
I REALLY want to crew for this. I'm hoping my friend Kim wants to too. Crew members don't have to raise any money, but if my fundraising for the 3 Day goes well, I could always put some money towards the Avon walk. And crew members have to be there the day before which is fine, Sean will just have to take a day off from work or maybe my mom would watch the kids for me. Gotta talk it over more with Sean and Kim and see. Tuesday, November 21

I got the information I requested for the Avon Walk in NY City October of 2007. It's going to be Oct. 6-7. I've decided I'm definitely not walking in it, but crewing would be something I'd love to do. My friend Kim asked for information on it as well so we could do it together. It would be alot of fun and is for a good cause. I'd love to be on the other side of a walk...meaning the crewing side. Being I'm walking in the 3 Day Oct. 19-21 with the Yip Yap Girls I figure crewing would be better for me and my feet. Maybe one year I'll walk in two walks, as long as they're not in the same month. :)

I just signed up at the Avon site to get information on crewing for the walk October 6-7, 2007 up in NY City. I had thought of possibly walking in that one too, you have to raise $1800.00 but not sure that's a good idea being I'll be walking the 3 day here 3 weeks after. It's only been 3 1/2 weeks after the Tampa 3 Day and my knee is still hurting me. (Could be because I was chasing the dog around yesterday and hurt it some more) Granted it's a 2 day walk up there, I don't want to take any chances.
