My friend and teammate Tara from the 3 Day Walk back in October posted a really cute video on her blog. She's a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter's troop and during the 3 Day the girls came to camp to help the walkers out with their gear and putting up tents, etc. So they got to see not only the walkers but "behind the scenes" as well so to speak. One of the girls from her troop put together such a cute video from pictures she had taken those 3 days. Not only is it an awesome tribute to all walkers, but it's also one to a great mom - Tara!!!! Go check it out!

Both my mother in law and my aunt (both breast cancer survivors) sent me thank you's in the mail for participating in the 3 day. I cried when I got them. My mother in law even sent me a little thank you gift. My mother in law wrote the following in her card: To Kim - Thank you for putting my name forward for the cancer research walk. I really appreciate it and hope alot of women benefit from it. Just a little gift to say thanks. Love Mam And here's the one from my Auntie Lois: Dear Kim, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so proud of your accomplishment. You are to be rewarded with a gold star. Love, Aunti Lo I also received beautiful pale pink roses with a card that read "You did a really great thing! Congratulations!" from my friend Mel, her husband and her daughter. I cried when I got those as well. When I signed up for the 3 day I had no way of knowing just how much it would change my life. I didn't sign up for the recognition and the thank you's. When we did our victory walk that last day, it was so overwhelming. SO many people were there. The cheers, the waves, the thank you's. I cry still thinking of it. The best part though of the closing ceremony was when the survivors walked in....we all took one shoe off and raised it.......we did the walk for them...for all women....so that no one has to ever go through it...in hopes to find a cure and I still get chills thinking of that moment. When my kids say they want to walk with me when they turn 16 I feel proud. I would be so proud to walk with them. But (and I don't tell them this because I don't think they'd understand)....I do hope by the time they are 16 we've found a cure! Wednesday, November 8

Below is the email I got from the 3 day site:
You did it! Three days of walking. Three days of friendships formed and stories shared. Three days of blisters and sore muscles. Three days of kindness. Three days of the world the way we wish it could be. The money you raised will help the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund save lives and go toward vital breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. We made so many wonderful memories in those three days. It was an honor to share the journey with you. Every day we are inspired by the spirit, inspiration and commitment you embody. Thank you and congratulations on a job well done. Warm Regards, The Tampa Bay Breast Cancer 3-Day Team Monday, October 23

I found 2 sites that have some pictures and media coverage of last weekends walk. Tampa Bay's News Channel 10 was there and even had a group of people walking. Heather and Reggie both walked. Even though Heather looked gorgeous every day, all day. How I don't know when the rest of us were all sweaty and dirty looking. LOL Danon and I joked how they probably got picked up and swept at secret locations so no one saw. Heather did stay at camp though in a tent (I never saw her there though) but we heard Reggie stayed at a local hotel. I do have a picture of Reggie from that Friday morning as we all started walking towards Sand Key Beach.
The St. Pete Times had some nice coverage too. I LOVE the picture of the sun rising and all our arms stretched to the sky that first morning. They have a nice slideshow at the site too. I made Sean buy the newspaper for that entire weekend plus Mondays as well and got copies to mail to my mother in law in Ireland. I should make a scrap book for her. Hmmmm, Christmas gift?????? |
